Who we are

The Liberia Trade and Investment Office in Canada represents the trade and investment interests of the Government of Liberia in Canada. It reports to the President's Office and operates from Mississauga, Ontario.

The team is four officers, working across Monrovia and Mississauga.

Who we work with

• Canadian businesses and investors considering operations, sourcing or investment in Liberia.
• Liberian exporters seeking access to the Canadian market.
• The Liberian diaspora in Canada, on trade and investment matters specifically.

What the Office is working towards

The purpose is a working economic relationship between Liberia and Canada that outlasts any one project or any one officer — trade in both directions, investment that builds something durable, and institutional links between governments, universities and development partners that keep operating after an introduction is made.

The Office is the bridge for that. It carries Liberian opportunities to Canadian capital, expertise and markets, and carries Canadian requirements back to Liberian businesses trying to meet them. What it offers on both sides is the same thing: accurate information, a named person accountable for your file, and an introduction to whoever actually decides.

It is deliberately a narrow role, and the narrowness is the point. An office that promised more than it can deliver would be worth less to an investor than one that states its limits and holds to them.

Legal status and mandate

The Office operates under the authority of the Ministry of State for Presidential Affairs of the Republic of Liberia. Its establishment was sanctioned through executive directive.

Its mandate covers three functions. It serves as a promotional agency, marketing Liberia’s investment opportunities to Canadian businesses and facilitating direct connections between Canadian investors and Liberian enterprises, government agencies and local communities. It functions as a bilateral engagement platform, organising business forums, trade delegations and diplomatic events. It coordinates humanitarian aid and capacity building initiatives that support Liberia’s broader development objectives.

What we do not do

We do not issue licences, concessions, permits or visas. We do not register companies. We do not provide legal, tax or investment advice, and no page on this site should be read as any of those. Where your question needs a decision from a Liberian authority, we identify the authority and make the introduction.
